NVIDIA retains its hold of the GPU market while the competing products from AMD & Intel are on a decline in major DIY markets.
NVIDIA’s Mainstream GPUs Still The Most Popular Choice Among Gamers on Steam, AMD & Intel Nowhere Close
NVIDIA and AMD are about to introduce their new GPUs in a month or two, while the existing GPU market seems to be in favor of NVIDIA, at least as per the Steam Survey. Both are the biggest GPU manufacturers in the PC hardware industry, but NVIDIA is able to keep its hold in various parts of the world without breaking a sweat.
Its previous generation RTX 30-series Ampere GPUs still sell like hotcakes, as we have seen from the recent rankings on various retail websites. This is true when we check the Steam Hardware survey as well. As per the October survey, the GeForce RTX 3060 is still sitting at the top of the list, having a big share of 7.46% among all the GPUs. This is a straight +1.60% jump since last month and is the highest in the last few months.
Similarly, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 maintains its number one spot at Amazon.com by being the most-selling GPU at the moment. This has been the case for several months as NVIDIA isn’t slowing down on shipping the card to its onboard partners. Moreover, the card features a 12 GB variant, which can be bought for a lower price than the RTX 4060 8GB, which makes it a strong choice for budget gaming builds.
Surprisingly, the RTX 4060 is doing pretty good as well. Not just the desktop variant, but the laptop variant too. The RTX 4060 laptop GPU has successfully secured the second spot on Steam’s most popular GPU list with a share of 5.61%, a straight +1.24% increase in the last month. The next is the desktop RTX 4060 with a share of 5.25%, followed by budget NVIDIA cards that make up the top 10 most used GPUs according to Steam worldwide. The RTX 4060 laptop is perhaps more successful because it’s roughly on par with the desktop variant, unlike other higher-end SKUs.
On the other hand, AMD GPUs aren’t even near to NVIDIA cards in popularity, both in retail and Steam surveys. This is also true in some European regions and as per the latest report by @TechEpiphanyYT, Radeon GPUs are seeing sales decline at the German retailer, Mindfactory. With a share of 41.72%, AMD has been able to sell 655 units in the 44th week, while NVIDIA has gained more and sits at a 58.28% share with 915 units sold.
Intel has almost disappeared from the retailers with Zero Arc Alchemist discrete GPUs sold this week. The GPU is completely absent from the Steam list as well and there is just one Arc GPU present at the 75th spot among the top 100 best-selling GPUs on Amazon. One can only hope that something changes with the upcoming Battlemage lineup, but it looks like the future of Intel’s discrete GPUs might be at stake given the recent CEO statement.
