Companies to launch facility to host Nvidia hardware in 2026
CoreWeave and Core Scientific have started work on a new data center in Oklahoma.
The companies this week announced ground had been broken on a 100MW facility in the Port of Muskogee in West Oklahoma.
Set to go live in 2026, the facility will host CoreWeave’s Nvidia GPUs for an undisclosed client. The facility will provide approximately 70MW of critical IT load, with the remaining 30MW powering ancillary systems required to ensure optimal GPU performance.
“Today we celebrate the beginning of a project that highlights Muskogee’s role as a center of next-generation, AI computing,” said Adam Sullivan, Core Scientific CEO. “This cutting-edge project was made possible thanks to the foresight demonstrated by Port Muskogee’s team, Mayor Patrick Cale, and the state of Oklahoma. Their support and determination make Muskogee a focal point for one of the most important and dynamic technology developments in modern times, creating an economic and job creation engine for the region. We look forward to serving as a contributing member of the local community for years to come.”
The Muskogee data center represents a portion of the 500MW of capacity that CoreWeave has contracted from Core Scientific for HPC hosting operations. As well as building new sites, Core Scientific is converting some of its cryptomine sites into AI/HPC hosting facilities and relocating its Bitcoin mining hardware to other facilities.
The Muskogee City-County Port Authority first announced a partnership with Core Scientific for a 500MW blockchain & crypto mine data center at the Port of Muskogee John T. Griffin Industrial Park back in April 2022. YZY Capital has also previously announced plans for cryptomining facilities in the area.
“Port Muskogee is proud to welcome Core Scientific and CoreWeave to our community, a partnership poised to significantly impact Muskogee’s economic future,” said Port Muskogee’s executive drector, Kimbra Scott. “This facility is more than a data center; it’s a commitment to economic progress, bringing more than $4 billion in capital investment and $182 million in local net benefits over the life of the project. We are excited to be part of Muskogee’s transformation into a hub for high-performance AI and technology.”
CoreWeave was founded in 2017 as a cryptomining firm but now offers access to GPUs for AI applications. The company has plans to open 28 data centers globally by the end of 2024, and 10 more in 2025.
In the US, CoreWeave has signed leasing deals with the likes of Lincoln, Chirisa, Flexential, TierPoint, Digital Realty, Switch, and Core Scientific for data centers across the US, including in Texas, Virginia, Georgia, and Oregon. It has previously said it has data centers across Chicago, North Carolina, New Jersey, and New York.
This week saw the company announce it is one of the first major cloud providers to bring up an Nvidia GB200 NVL72 cluster based on Nvidia’s Blackwell GPUs. The cluster delivers up to 1.4 exaFLOPS of AI compute. On LinkedIn, the company suggested the cluster is hosted by Switch. Dell was named as a partner.
The company also announced the general availability of new GPU instance types, including Nvidia’s GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip, L40, and L40S GPUs. A new object storage service is also in preview.
