Brookfield boosts bet on AI infrastructure with new strategy : US Pioneer Global VC DIFCHQ SFO NYC Singapore – Riyadh Swiss Our Mind

NEW YORK: Brookfield Asset Management is launching a dedicated strategy focused on developing infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) as it looks to capitalise on a boom in data centres.

The strategy is designed to “meet the growing demand from hyperscalers, enterprises and governments for scalable, integrated solutions,” chief executive officer Bruce Flatt and president Connor Teskey said in a letter to investors, alongside reporting second-quarter results.

The New York-based firm has already deployed tens of billions into this space and sees a “significant pipeline of opportunities,” they said.

In June, Brookfield said that it plans to invest as much as 95 billion kronor (US$9.8bil) to develop AI infrastructure in Sweden that will take 10 to 15 years to build.

The firm has also committed to invest €20bil (US$23bil) to develop data centres and AI infrastructure in France over the next five years. Shares of Brookfield Asset Management rose 2.5%, to US$63.06, at 11.52am in New York.

Brookfield reported US$613mil of distributable earnings in the quarter, up 12% year-on-year, according to a separate statement. That came to US 38 cents a share, falling short of Bloomberg-compiled analyst estimates of US 39 cents a share.

The firm’s fee-bearing capital climbed 10% to US$563bil during the three-month period.

The firm collected more than US$800mil for the second iteration of its global transition vehicle, making it the largest fund ever dedicated to the energy transition with more than US$15bil of raised capital. —Bloomberg
