According to Nokia, the products are specifically designed for modern military operations.

As part of its latest defense range, Nokia has upgraded its Banshee 5G Tactical Radio.

The vendor notes that the radio is designed as a portable mobile ‘network in a box,’ meaning that it can be set up quickly, has strong security, and is easy to transport.

Nokia says the radio provides higher bandwidth, faster speeds, and lower latency, making communications more reliable in challenging conditions, while it can enable quicker coordination between teams, including fast data sharing.

“By harnessing the power of 5G and Edge computing, Nokia is accelerating the digital transformation of battlespace. This launch marks a step toward unified battlefield communications,” said Giuseppe Targia, head of space and defense at Nokia.

“With the Nokia Mission-Safe Phone and the Nokia Banshee 5G Tactical radio, we’re enabling next-generation connectivity and resilience. And with our fully integrated tactical communications ecosystem, we are uniquely positioned to meet the complete end-to-end needs of modern defense operations.”

Meanwhile, the company’s smartphone, dubbed the Nokia Mission-Safe Phone, has been developed and manufactured in Europe.

Nokia says the phone is a purpose-built defence smartphone for those on the frontline.

Last week, Nokia’s CEO Justin Hotard called for high-risk vendors to be banned from Europe, ahead of the opening of Nokia’s new research campus in Oulu, Finland.

During the same event, Nokia Mobile Networks president Tommi Uitto stated that defense is a big area of focus for the vendor.
