OpenAI is seeking to raise at least $30 billion at a valuation of about $1.4 trillion, not including the new money, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The round would serve as bridge financing in place of an initial public offering, after CEO Sam Altman said earlier this month that the ChatGPT maker would not go public in 2026, citing concerns over AI safety.
The talks are at an early stage and terms could change, with investors leading demand for the round. The target would mark a sharp step up from March, when OpenAI closed a round with $122 billion in committed capital at an $852 billion valuation. OpenAI didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
OpenAI’s revenue has been climbing quickly. Its annualized revenue run rate is nearing $70 billion, up more than 70% since the start of the third quarter. The funding push also sets up a contrast with rival Anthropic, whose IPO prospectus, seen by Reuters, points to a listing that could value it at more than $2 trillion.
