London: The India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) signed a letter of intent at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow on Friday declaring their willingness to work together and countries to implement ambitious national ones Climate protection in line with global efforts.
The ISA Director General Dr. Ajay Mathur and the UNFCCC’s Deputy Executive Secretary Ovais Sarmad stipulates that the two institutions will jointly organize a range of activities to facilitate the implementation of mitigation measures in the energy sector, the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and long-term low-carbon development strategies .
The agreement will also help stakeholders from developing countries, including Small Island Nations (SIDs) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs), accelerate the adoption of policy options and approaches for decarbonization technologies.
“By using solar energy and clean energy, it may be possible to take action against climate change and achieve nationally defined contributions to reduce emissions before the target date,” said Dr. Mathur.
“The UNFCCC has led this climate challenge from the start, and we appreciate the partnership, collaboration and effort to provide long-term, cost-effective and high-impact solutions,” he said.
The ISA is an intergovernmental contract-based international organization with a global mandate to catalyze global solar growth by helping to lower the financing and technology costs of solar energy.
The alliance is committed to establishing solar as a joint solution that simultaneously addresses climate, energy and economic priorities in all regions, the energy transition on a global level, facilitates energy security on the national level and at the same time guarantees access to energy on the local level .
The ISA said it is helping major nations meet their global commitments so as to meet the planet’s need for reduced carbon emissions while helping more economically vulnerable nations create a self-sustaining energy alternative that reduces trade dependence and creation of jobs.
Earlier this week, the US entered the Alliance as 101 at the Glasgow Summit, which ends on Friday.
The launch of the International Solar Alliance was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Francois Hollande, the former President of France, in November 2015 at the 21st session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-21) in Paris, France.
