The 18th edition of the eagerly awaited Dubai Airshow kicked off on November 13 at Dubai World Central (DWC) under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Themed ‘The Future of the Aerospace Industry,’ this edition is set to reshape the trajectory of the aerospace, space and defence sectors, featuring participation from over 1,400 exhibitors representing 95 countries.
Breaking records as the largest edition to date, the event aims to serve as a global meeting ground for industry pioneers and innovators, with more than 300 international speakers exploring the latest trends and opportunities in aviation, space, and defence. Running until November 17, the five-day event seeks to foster collaboration, drive technological advancement, and promote sustainable innovation.
A highlight of this year’s Dubai Airshow is the static display, setting a new benchmark with over 180 commercial aircraft, including Airbus’ A320P2F, A321neo, A330neo, A400M Atlas CMk1, H225 (Helicopter), and C295. Making its public debut with a new livery, Embraer’s E195-E2 will be featured, and Boeing plans to showcase a flying demonstration of its highly anticipated 777-9.
Boeing to invest in India
Boeing has unveiled preliminary plans for the establishment of a new supply and distribution center for aviation parts and components in India. The initiative, in collaboration with prominent Indian firms, aims to serve both defence and commercial products, according to Brendan Nelson, Vice President of Boeing and President of Boeing International.
Nelson stated, “We are in the process of establishing a supply and distribution center for components and parts. We are currently working closely with some leading Indian companies on both defence and commercial products.” The specific companies involved and the location of the upcoming center were not disclosed by Nelson.
With a global footprint spanning over 150 countries, Boeing expresses confidence in India’s future. Nelson remarked, “India is an exciting country. It is an emerging superpower. In some ways, it reminds you of late 19th century America, with a vast market, now with the reforms that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has undertaken, enabling companies like us to be confident in increasing our investment.”
He further added, “We certainly intend to invest much more in India and support the country in its aviation sector.”
Boeing currently employs 5,500 individuals in India, with a substantial engineering workforce. The company’s substantial investments include a $200 million engineering center in Bangalore, slated to open early next year.
Emirates announces $52 billion aircraft buy from Boeing
Emirates kicked off the Dubai Air Show by sealing a $52 billion deal with Boeing, underscoring the aviation industry’s recovery from the setbacks of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite regional security concerns due to Israel’s conflict with Hamas, FlyDubai, Emirates’ budget counterpart, also made a significant move, placing an $11 billion order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners—the first wide-body aircraft to join its fleet.
