Investing.com — Anthropic PBC has agreed to spend $45 billion to rent AI cloud computing power from Nscale’s data center development in West Virginia, Bloomberg reported Wednesday. The deal comes as the AI company works to secure capacity ahead of its planned initial public offering.

Nscale will use Nvidia Corp.’s Vera Rubin chips to meet Anthropic’s needs, with the chips expected to start coming online late next year. The commitment spans six years and represents about 460 megawatts of power, enough to supply about 345,000 US homes at any one time.

Anthropic, which created the Claude AI assistant, has signed several computing deals in recent months. The company agreed to a $50 billion arrangement with Fluidstack, a $10 billion deal with Volta Infra Holdings Ltd., and a $45 billion agreement with SpaceX. Anthropic was valued at $965 billion in May.

The deal covers the first of three buildings at Nscale’s Monarch campus in West Virginia. The full campus will total about 1.35 gigawatts when complete. Developing the entire campus and on-site power plant will cost about $71 billion, with $47 billion of that going toward AI chips. Servers at the other buildings will begin providing power in 2028.

Microsoft Corp. had signed a letter of intent for the West Virginia site in March but walked away earlier in the summer, allowing Anthropic to become the tenant.

The agreement is important for London-based Nscale as it prepares for an initial public offering as soon as next month. The company is part of a group of firms called neoclouds that lease AI-focused computing power.
