Company to create an academy in Michigan to train manufacturers and grow research and development

Apple has announced it plans to invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years in AI and manufacturing.

The funding would be used to open a new advanced manufacturing facility in Houston to produce servers supporting Apple Intelligence and expand data center capacity. Apple said it will also be used to double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing fund, create an academy in Michigan to train manufacturers as well as grow its research and development investments.

“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO in the announcement.

“From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing fund to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing. And we’ll keep working with people and companies across this country to help write an extraordinary new chapter in the history of American innovation.”

Houston Manufacturing Facility

The Houston 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is slated to open in 2026, allowing servers previously manufactured outside the U.S. to be assembled there. The facility’s servers play a key role in powering Apple Intelligence.

“The servers bring together years of R&D by Apple engineers and deliver the industry-leading security and performance of Apple silicon to the data center,” Apple said.

Data Center Expansion

Apple also plans to continue its expansion of data center capacity in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona and Nevada.

Apple is also doubling its U.S. manufacturing fund from $5 billion to $10 billion. Created in 2017, the fund promotes advanced manufacturing and skills development.

Apple said the expansion also includes a multi-billion-dollar commitment to produce advanced silicon in TSMC’s Fab 21 facility in Arizona that makes chips for Apple, its largest customer.

Apple Manufacturing Academy Opening in Detroit

Apple also announced the opening of the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit where Apple engineers and experts from top universities will advise small and medium-sized businesses on adopting AI and smart manufacturing practices.

Offering both online and in-person classes, the academy would also include a skills development curriculum that includes project management and manufacturing process optimization. Apple said the courses will “help drive productivity, efficiency and quality in companies’ supply chains.”
