NEW DELHI: Telecom services provider Bharti Airtel said that it has become the market leader in the fast-growing Cellular Internet of Things (IoT) space with a market share of 45.5%, citing Frost & Sullivan’s latest Enterprise Mobile Services Report Q4 FY 2020-21 (January 2021 – March 2021).
“Internet of things (IoT) technology is enabling enterprises to become intelligent and data-driven. With the key partnerships, innovative IoT platforms, and consultative approach, IoT providers are helping enterprises to adopt IoT solutions. The Indian IoT market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.8% moving from CY 2020 TO CY 2023,” said Abhinav Kumar, Consultant, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Practice, Frost & Sullivan.

Airtel IoT is an end-to-end platform that can connect and manage billions of devices and applications securely and seamlessly through Airtel’s 5G-ready network that comes with the option to deploy Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), 4G or 2G connectivity using an Airtel e-SIM.
As per the company, it currently supports over 6 million managed IoT connections, including vertical-specific solutions such as industrial asset monitoring, smart metering, and vehicle telematics.
MG Motor, Pine Labs, Paytm, Kirloskar, BSES, Genus, Kent, Black Buck, Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited and Odisha Power Transmission Company are among the enterprises that are already using Airtel’s IoT solutions.
“The partnership [with Airtel] will see 200,000 smart meters located in homes across the state equipped with Airtel’s 5G ready IoT SIMs that remotely transmit customers usage of energy in near real-time, cutting costs and helping to balance supply and demand,” Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation said in a statement.
“Airtel IoT is built to massively simplify the IoT journeys of emerging enterprises. We continue to invest in our platforms by enabling technologies that are central to the functioning of the Internet of Things, including our 5G network,” added Ajay Chitkara, Director & CEO – Airtel Business.
The report underlined that Airtel Business continues to remain the market leader in the Enterprise Mobility Space with a Revenue Market Share (RMS) of 43.3%.
