Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) edged higher after CEO Elon Musk said the company aims to dominate AI chip production, outlining a plan to introduce a new in-house design every 12 months. In a series of posts on X, Musk said Tesla expects to build chips at higher volumes ultimately than all other AI chips combined, signaling ambitions far beyond the automotive market.
Musk said Tesla’s internal team has already deployed several million AI chips across vehicles and data centers, powering driver-assistance systems and training workloads. The current AI4 chip is embedded in Tesla cars today, while AI5 is nearing rollout and AI6 is already in development. He argued these chips could save millions of lives through safer driving and enable advanced medical services through the company’s Optimus humanoid platform.
The aggressive cadence positions Tesla as a potential competitor to Nvidia, AMD and Intel at a time of soaring global demand for AI compute.
