After much speculation, Foxconn’s chairman confirmed details of the project

Foxconn will manufacture data center-related equipment for the Stargate project at the former Ohio General Motors factory it sold to SoftBank earlier this month.

According to Foxconn chairman Young Liu, the two companies will establish a joint venture, with Foxconn continuing to operate the site, and SoftBank providing the necessary manufacturing equipment.

First reported on August 5, Foxconn sold the 6.2 million sq ft (576,000 sqm) site in Lordstown, Ohio, for $375 million to a recently established entity named ‘Crescent Dune LLC.’ At the time, Foxconn declined to comment further on the identity of the buyer, other than to confirm it was an existing partner.

The groundwork for the project was first laid more than a year and a half ago, Liu said. The site will be the first manufacturing site established under the $500 billion Stargate data center project, which SoftBank is currently undertaking with OpenAI, Oracle, and Abu Dhabi’s MGX.

Following the reporting of its Q2 2025 results last week, Foxconn revealed that during the quarter, it generated more revenue from the production and sale of AI servers than it did from consumer electronics, including iPhones.
