Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang got a first look at Meta’s new AR glasses and was impressed. At the recent Meta Connect event, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, presented a reaction video that included Huang trying on the Orion prototype glasses. “The head tracking is good, the brightness is good, the color contrast is good, the field of view is excellent,” he said, calling the lightweight design “a big deal.”
In the video, prominent figures in tech, media and even Olympians expressed excitement over the Orion glasses, describing them as “it’s crazy responsive,” “learning with these will be amazing,” and “it’s so fast.” Overall, the feedback seemed overwhelmingly positive.
These glasses are Meta’s first attempt at a full holographic augmented reality device and Zuckerberg called them the “most advanced glasses the world has ever seen.”
Trending: Amid the ongoing EV revolution, previously overlooked low-income communities now harbor a huge investment opportunity at just $500.
Zuckerberg revealed that despite major technical obstacles, the team has worked on these glasses for 10 years. The goal was to create glasses with a wide field of view, that are lightweight and that allow users to see through them clearly – all while integrating cutting-edge technology. The result is a pair of glasses powered by a battery in the arm that bends light to generate realistic holograms of various sizes and depths using tiny projectors.
Even though Orion isn’t available to the public yet and there’s still work to be done, Meta is letting some external developers get their hands on the prototype. The company is also focusing on refining the design and lowering prices before launching a consumer version.
