Nvidia AI Summit 2024: At the NVIDIA AI Summit in Mumbai, Mukesh Ambani highlighted the significance of the company’s name, linking it to the Hindi word “Vidya,” meaning knowledge. He praised NVIDIA’s role in the intelligence revolution and its potential to drive global prosperity, emphasising the cultural connections between technology and Indian philosophy.

During the NVIDIA AI Summit held in Mumbai on October 24, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani offered a unique perspective on the significance of the company’s name, drawing parallels to Indian culture and philosophy.

As he addressed attendees, Ambani reflected on Jensen Huang’s decision to name his company NVIDIA, emphasising its connection to knowledge and prosperity.

“While listening to you, I was reminded that NVIDIA is an exotic name, but it has a deeper meaning,” Ambani said, speaking directly to Huang. He elaborated on how the word “Vidya” in Hindi translates to “knowledge.”

Jensen expressed his conviction that the name NVIDIA was well-chosen, noting that he had previously heard skepticism about its suitability. “Everybody said, ‘NVIDIA, what a horrible name. You will never make it,’ but I knew it was right,” Jensen remarked.

Ambani also drew a connection between Vidya and the Hindu goddess Saraswati, who represents knowledge, and explained how acquiring knowledge aligns with the goddess of prosperity, Lakshmi.

“When you devote yourself to the goddess of knowledge, prosperity follows,” he said.

This cultural context, Ambani argued, reinforces the transformative impact of NVIDIA’s contributions to the ongoing knowledge and intelligence revolution.

Ambani also said that NVIDIA is at the forefront of driving innovation and prosperity worldwide.

“What you are driving is the knowledge revolution converting into what I call the intelligence revolution,” he stated, highlighting the potential for these advancements to benefit the global population, particularly the 1.5 billion people in India.

In his heartfelt welcome, Ambani praised Huang’s efforts in advancing technology and expressed his optimism for the future. “We are at the doorsteps of a new intelligence age,” he declared. “On behalf of everybody, I’m very proud to have you here. Thank you for contributing to the world to bring the intelligence age in our lifetime.”
