NVIDIA & AMD Are Seeing Japan’s AI Market As The Next Destination For Investments; Both Firms Are Eager To Maintain a Regional Presence

When it comes to the demand for AI infrastructure, it seems like Japan is showing massive interest, as the nation is investing heavily in technology to stay ahead in the AI race. Japan has been urging tech giants like NVIDIA/AMD to invest in the nation to develop AI infrastructure, claiming that the nation wants to be “the easiest country in the world to develop and utilize AI”. With visits from AMD’s CEO Lisa Su and NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang, this shows that Japan is indeed the next destination where AI firms plan to create an influence.

Based on a report by Bloomberg, it is revealed that Jensen’s visit to Japan involved asking the nation to push electricity generation to meet the demand from the AI sector. In a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, discussions were held on how the country could achieve leadership in AI, given its already well-established position in robotics and industrial manufacturing. Interestingly, Jensen also gifted Japan’s PM a DGX Spark AI supercomputer, showing commitment to the nation’s ambitions.

NVIDIA is already on the back foot in expanding its regional presence, given that it is facing massive troubles maintaining its vast market share in China, amid the new US export regulations and mounting competition. With uncertainty in the region, Team Green needs to resort to alternate markets, and it seems like Japan is an ideal candidate, given the nation’s vast R&D resources and the drive towards becoming a key player in the global AI game.

Apart from NVIDIA, Lisa Su also managed to pay a visit to Japan, meeting with the country’s PM and multiple partners. While the specifics of the visit are uncertain for now, it is claimed that Japan has a key interest in AMD’s expansion into the region and that the government is more inclined towards building a relationship with Team Red for its AI ambitions. So it is safe to say that the race for market presence is definitely on between NVIDIA and AMD in Japan.
