With three geographically separate and independent zones, Milan becomes a fully fledged cloud region, offering enterprise-grade resilience. This architecture enables businesses to distribute their applications and data across multiple zones, improving service availability and ensuring business continuity even in the event of an outage affecting one of them.

This expansion further strengthens Scaleway’s presence in Italy, also reflected in its recent acquisition of Qarnot Computing, a specialist in high-performance computing (HPC) and waste heat recovery. Qarnot develops computing infrastructure designed to reuse server-generated heat for heating purposes. In Brescia, Qarnot has partnered with A2A to connect its HPC infrastructure to the city’s district heating network, providing a concrete example of this approach in Italy.

Expanding cloud and GPU infrastructure across Europe

Scaleway’s European expansion will continue in 2027 with the opening of three Availability Zones in Stockholm, Sweden, and three additional zones in Frankfurt, Germany, further extending the geographic reach of its cloud platform.

Alongside this expansion, Scaleway is investing in additional computing capacity through the development of GPU Zones, dedicated infrastructure designed to support large-scale AI model training and inference.

Two major deployments are announced:

With GPU Zones in Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm, Scaleway is building an infrastructure that will eventually represent tens of thousands of GPUs, tens of exaflops of computing power and tens of megawatts of capacity.

By offering a broader range of processor architectures, Scaleway aims to give businesses access to leading technologies while preserving their freedom to choose the infrastructure best suited to their needs.

These developments are part of a broader industrial ambition, notably reflected in Scaleway and iliad Group’s participation in the European AI Gigafactory project.

Key takeaways

  • Milan: a fully fledged cloud region with 3 AZs.
  • 6 new AZs planned for 2027 in Stockholm and Frankfurt.
  • 2 new GPU Zones: AMD in Sweden and NVIDIA B300 in Denmark.

2. Expanding technological choice and supporting European innovation

Technological autonomy starts with freedom of choice. Scaleway brings together global innovation and European technologies to give businesses more options, greater performance and increased control over their technology stack.
