Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM), the wireless and computing-chip designer, tied a potentially massive Amazon AI-chip opportunity to an equity sweetener, Reuters reported. Shares climbed approximately 0.75% to $189.19 Wednesday morning. That puts Qualcomm above its GuruFocus GF Value estimate of $175.78, with the stock trading at a 7.63% premium to that benchmark.
Amazon could purchase as much as $60 billion of Qualcomm AI data-center products under the long-term framework. The companies plan to work together on customized inference chips and optical connectivity capable of reaching 1.6 terabits per second. Purchase-linked warrants could also give Amazon roughly $4 billion of Qualcomm equity at an exercise price of $161.26 per share, giving the cloud giant a direct financial incentive to expand its use of Qualcomm hardware.
That incentive is meaningful: the warrant value represents roughly 6.7% of the framework’s maximum potential purchases. But the headline number is not the same as guaranteed revenue. Neither company disclosed a minimum purchasing commitment, a firm delivery schedule or the margins Qualcomm could earn. The picture reinforces that valuation tensionthe shares already sit 7.63% above GF Value. Qualcomm has landed a powerful validation of its push beyond smartphones; now actual Amazon orders need to turn that promise into earnings.
