Construction is set to begin this year on the AI data center in South Korea, a major milestone for the country

Less than two weeks after LG Electronics family member Brian Koo announced a partnership with the South Korean government to build what is being billed as the world’s largest AI data center, the governor of South Korea visited the U.S. to formally sign the $35 billion agreement.

Governor Kim Yung-Rok of South Korea’s Jeollanam-do Province visited Santa Clara Wednesday to sign the memorandum of understanding to develop the state-of-the-art data center, marking what the company is calling “a landmark public-private partnership in Korea and for the world,” setting construction of the world’s largest data center in motion.

“This project is not just about economic growth; it’s about positioning Jeollanam-do as a global leader in innovation and creating a brighter future for our citizens,” the governor said in a statement.

Construction is set to begin this year on the AI data center in South Korea, representing a major milestone for the country. The project is expected to generate $3.5 billion in initial annual revenue, with the potential to reach a total value of $35 billion.

The new venture, Fir Hills Inc. is part of Stock Farm Road Inc., co-founded by Koo and Amin Badr-El-Din.

“The signing of this agreement is not just about the AI data center supercluster hub but about leadership,” Badr-El-Din said in a statement. “The governor, and all the stakeholders he has assembled, focus to work with us to make the region one of the most welcoming in the world, has enabled our joint commitment to be the most globally competitive.”

The data center agreement was not the only news Stock Farm Road shared this week. The company announced it is partnering with Stanford University faculty and researchers, including those at its Korea research center to focus on “research at the intersection of energy, technology, and regulatory innovation.”

Stock Farm has also partnered with Kentech University in Naju, South Korea. Established in 2021, the university focuses on innovation, energy research and technology.
