Surge in digital productivity to create jobs, help India become $1 trillion economy by 2025: MeitY secretary

“The efforts of the government and MeitY for pushing the digital agenda has resulted in India moving up the world digital competitiveness rankings,” Sawhney noted.

NEW DELHI: The surge in digital productivity will lead to an exponential rise in employment opportunities which will create millions of jobs by 2025, and it will align India on its path to become a $1 trillion economy by 2025, said Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

“The efforts of the government and MeitY for pushing the digital agenda has resulted in India moving up the world digital competitiveness rankings,” Sawhney noted.

As per the Institute of Management Development (IMD), India stood at the 48th position in digital competitiveness in 2020. The Switzerland-based institution had ranked 63 global economies based on their readiness to adopt and explore new technologies.

National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) highlighted India surpassed 2.7 million registrations of .in domain, which makes India the third-largest nation in Asia in the country-centric, top-level domain growth.

NIXI is the .IN registry that manages India’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD) – .IN

NIXI also manages the National Internet Registry of the country delegating Internet Protocol addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) and Autonomous System Numbers to Indian affiliates.

Sawhney also said that NIXI will provide a personalized e-mail with 10GB space to every .IN user on demand.

“This is perhaps a unique offer by any ccTLD in the world,” said Anil Kumar Jain, CEO NIXI, and added that the ‘Bharat’ domain is now available in all 22 official Indian languages.

Sawhney, as well as Jain along with TV Ramachandran (Founder & CEO of advisory), Leonid Todorov (General Manager at the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association), Nilaya Varma (Founder & CEO of Primus Partners), and Gaurab Raj Upadhaya (Chair APNIC Executive Council), were speaking at a virtual event organized by NIXI on “Digital Economy – expanding footprints”.
