India is heading the digital user ID race with 131.68 crore Aadhaar card holders, already onboarding the digital ecosystem that the world still looks forward to.
Research by the global body, Jupiter Research has revealed that the number of users with digital identity worldwide is currently 4.2 billion and is likely to cross 6.5 billion by 2026. The research has also revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital identity by 50 percent and reflects the increasing importance of digital identity in sectors.
In India, the unique identification number Aadhaar is linked with most government-funded schemes. Research co-author said, “Identity cards have been controversial in some countries due to privacy concerns, but they are a well-established mechanism for digitizing identify practices.
The report also said that digital identity cards will be used by 4 billion people worldwide in 2026. This ongoing digitalization is a prerequisite for many digital initiatives within e-government and will allow significant digital enable over the next five years.
